Heritage Reservation

Heritage Reservation is very much like another home for me. I have been coming here for ten years now. My first six years I was a camper, but the seventh and eighth years have been spent as a staff member here at Freedom. Last year I was not planning on coming back as a staff member, but when I came as a camper for the fourth week of camp, I realized how much I missed being here. Honestly, just being out here in the woods has made me feel a lot better, so I came back again this summer and became the Director of the Braddock's Brigade First Year Camper Program.

Since 2006 I've been working in Braddock's Brigade. In fact, I worked in the Trail to First Class Program before it was Braddock's Brigade in 2005. Obviously, I've fairly qualified to run the area this year. In fact, I'm the first director of Braddock's Brigade to have any experience in the area at all. I've seen all of the mistakes of previous years, and even though I've made a few, the scouts and the leaders have nothing but good things to say thus far. I thoroughly enjoy running the first year camper program. By the end of the week, I'm so close to the scouts that I almost feel like a father to some of them. The proudest moment I've ever experience was not giving my valedictory speech, as I thought it was be, but shaking hands with an amazing group of young individuals who worked hard to complete the program that I ran for them. Every time one of them walked up to me at the end of the trail, I couldn't help but smile. Just watching them light up when I shake their hands and congratulate them for completing the program, is an amazing sight.

Home is where the heart is, and my heart is now and forever in Freedom. I love this camp more than any other camp in Heritage Reservation. I wasn't hired to work in Braddock's Brigade this summer, but favorable circumstances put me in the area I wanted from the beginning. Here I am, loving every second of it, even though I miss Beaver Falls for the first time in my life. If I'm lucky, I'll be able to come back again next year, but I'm not sure what will happen next year. This is Joshua, a.k.a. Trevor, signing out

Oh, wait, I also have some photo albums posted from camp this summer. I'm sorry for the lack of people in my pictures, but this place is just too beautiful. Check It Out!.
