Mansfield University

I am currently a fourth semester student at Mansfield University of Pennsylvania, located in Tioga County. For those of you that are completely unaware of where Tioga county is, it is roughly centered in Pennsylvania and very close to the New York-Pennsylvania border. In Mansfield I am about forty five minutes north of Williamsport, PA.

Honestly, I love this school and everything about it. The classes are challenging and the work load is immense, but I wouldn't have it any other way. With only about three thousand to thirty five hundred students enrolled at any given point, Mansfield is a relatively small state funded college and the class sizes reflect that. Most of my classes have about twenty students or less in them, and none have more than fifty students. Because of this, I can interact directly with the professors every day if I choose to, and I often find myself conversing with professors after class for one reason or another. I have plenty of time to ask questions and get the answers I need, as well as time to get to know the professors and hopefully give myself a person to go to if I ever need a letter of recommendation

The other great way that Mansfield has students getting to know faculty is through the advising program. Each student is given an advisor, and that student is to meet with his or her advisor at least once a semester. The advisor is to help the students make decisions about classes and programs they want to enter, and before a student can register for classes the advisor has to give them permission. This way each student has to get to know at least one faculty member well enough to ask for help with determining a schedule, or at least to ask for permission to make a schedule. My advisor is wonderful, and she helped me to decide to take a minor in physics.

Although all of that is amazing, the best reason that I love Mansfield is how beautiful the campus is. I don't know if many students realize how serene this campus is compared to other campuses I've been on in the past, but for me, the campus was practically a selling point. All of the buildings, with a very few exceptions, are made of red brick because red is Mansfield's color. There are trees and plant life all around the campus, and even the hills, although bothersome to walk on, add to the beauty of this place. The architecture of some buildings is Victorian, while others are more modern, and yet somehow when sitting side by side they fit perfectly together. I do not have a good enough vocabulary to describe the emotions that Mansfield's campus instills in me, but I can say without a doubt that this is the most beautiful campus I have ever seen.

All in all, I am very happy to be going to Mansfield University. Although I have a few problems with living here, such as my distance from home and my neighbors, I do not think that I would enjoy my college experience as much anywhere else. In two years I will be graduating and even though I am looking ahead to that time, I am centered on the perfection of the moments I spend here in class, studying, and just walking around campus. I honestly love this school, and I am glad to have found it.

Also, check out the Mansfield photo album that I made to depict the beauty of this campus. Because I am not a great photographer, a lot of the photographs are taken by Brittany Mowry. Brittany is a friend of mine and an amateur photographer. She has been taking a lot of pictures here at Mansfield, and these are a few that she was willing to allow me to post on my site. All of her photos are marked, and she has asked that you do not use them without her permission.
